TEXAS LIVING!

WOW! I hate catching hell from family and friends! I’ve had several e-mails wanting to know why nothing new has been posted on this blog. It’s only been a week readers! GOSH! Sometimes I get busy and just can’t get to it. But I suppose I should just gut it out and “git ‘er done”, as Larry the Cable Guy would say. Well! For starters I have been busy with my new job. I started back to work on Monday getting receiver training at the McKinney Market Street store. I will be the new ‘head’ receiver at the new Allen store when it opens February 29th. And I’m purty darn excited. Market Street stores are the latest addition to the United Texas chain of grocery stores. As the web site says, “Find everything you need at Market Street-your solutions center for "Living well. Heart and soul."SM When I worked in the grocery business 35 years ago, a 24,000 sq. ft. store was considered big. Today’s Market Street stores are around 72,000 sq. ft. and offer gourmet delis, sushi, bakeries and expanded departments for produce, seafood, and pharmacy. The store I am training at in McKinney, Texas has weekly sales over $1 million dollars. And that’s a lot of freight coming through the receiver desk six days a week! Being retired for the past two years, my feet had grown accustomed to flip-flops and my Birkenstock’s, and my walking shoes when out for exercise. Are my feet adjusting? Yep, but real slow. It also feels good to ache again from physical work! I researched several companies before deciding that United Texas was where I wanted to work again. I love everything about them, their mission statement, (see above), their family atmosphere, their customer culture, and their expansion plans. Two more stores will open in the Metro-plex after the new Allen store, and more are in the works. And there you have it Pati! I promise to post news more often!
