TEXAS LIVING!

How about ‘dem Cowboys! No, wait! . . . . they choked earlier in the play-offs, didn’t they? Congratulations to the NY Giants. Even cheating, New England couldn’t win it all! Gotta love those Manning boys! Now the undefeated season doesn’t mean $%^&#@! Weather here this week-end was absolutely gorgeous. Mid-70’s yesterday and today. I was even able to sit in the sun for an hour and read. I’m reading a Ken Follett book, ‘Whiteout’. I think Donna and I have read most all of his books, including ‘The Pillars of the Earth’, all 900+ pages, published in 1990. It must weigh 40 pounds, and even thicker than a 1950’s Wish Book from Sears & Roebuck! I think we read it when it was first out, and now it is on Oprah’s book club selection list, 17 years later. This past week I had the pleasure of attending the Allen Senior Center Advisory Committee's monthly meeting. Several Center members were in attendance regarding the lastest bruhah about providing social security numbers for background checks to be a volunteer. The first question is: are you considered a volunteer if all you do is press play on the CD player for a dance class? Or for putting coffee in the filter basket and pushing the brew button for another pot of coffee? The bottom line? The City of Allen and the Parks Department have done a lousy job communicating with a strong volunteer work force! Too bad!
