TEXAS LIVING!

Goofy Texas Weather! Last night and early this morning, it was pretty exciting around here in Allen, TX. It was stormy when I went to bed at 9:30 and heavy winds were predicted. Never did hear any thunder, but the lightening woke me up around 3:30. Then the rains came! WOW! I then got out of bed around 3:45 and turned on the radio. It was announced that a tornado was expected in the Richardson/Plano area just south of us, and would touch down at 4 a.m. I was in the shower when we lost our power (good thing I know where everything is ). I was able to get a candle lit and finished my shower and headed off to work early since I didn’t have time to re-boot the PC and check mail and MyFamily. Our alley was an obstacle course getting out to the street with down tree limbs and garbage/recycling totes scattered all over. There were lots of tree limbs, trees & fences down on my way to work. The day turned out gorgeous with 84 degrees. The TV news tonight is saying it is still undecided if we had a tornado or straight-line winds here in Allen. Local City officials are saying over 300 homes here in Allen are damaged, with estimated repair costs at over $5 million dollars. The local McDonalds, 2 miles away had their golden arches blown off the building and one of the bigger supermarket stores is still closed with big chinks of its roof missing. A local residential airport between our house and Wade’s had pretty extensive damage, wrecking airplanes, hangars and houses. Local electric companies are saying 250,000 accounts without power this morning and down to 115,000 around the greater N. Dallas area this afternoon. Donna and I never felt threatened, but wow! What damage locally, but luckily no one seriously hurt. What’s next? A better ‘storm kit’ with flash-lights, battery operated radio, and candles. And just maybe small generator! We are watching the mess with American Airlines, hoping all will be resolved before our flight to Mexico and Donna’s to Portland next month. With close to 3,000 flights already canceled, it can only get better I hope!
