CHANGING TIMES! Who would ever have thought I’d think about buying a little car with good gas mileage? Corvettes, Muscle Cars, big 4x4 pick-ups, and classic cars - they’ve all been a part of the 80+ vehicles Donna and I have owned, and a few that I’ve owned before we got married in 1970. Shown here is the Smart Car, which has been very popular in Europe for the past eight years or so. I first saw one about four years when I attended an alternative fuel conference in Portland, Oregon. I thought then that when the Smart Car came to the USA, I’d like to have one. So yesterday I attended the Smart Car Road Show at one of the Dallas car dealerships, and test drove it. Also wanted to see how well a 6’2”, over-weight, old guy could get in and out of it! The car was easy to enter and exit, rode a little rough with such a short wheel base, and had some minor road noise. All forgivable! I plunked down my deposit without Donna’s consent and we will now await arrival in early ’08. There are three models to choose from, including a convertible. EPA estimates the car will get 40+ MPG and it is expected to be safety rated as high as you can get in the compact car category. It has a center protective cell similar to what a NASCAR racer has. The car is 8.8 feet long; 5.5 feet wide; and 5.5 feet tall, with a 3-cylinder that delivers 71 horse-power. Parking should now be much easier in Dallas! Check out the web site! http://www.smartusa.com NEW TOPIC! Texas Football! I had hoped for three for three - but Sandra Steigman’s Dallas Cowboys let me down! I honestly thought they had a shot at beating New England last Sunday. WHEW! . . . . was I wrong! But Allen High School beat another undefeated team last Friday night, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders ‘thumped’ A & M on Saturday! YAHOO! Allen plays league rival Plano West tomorrow night and Tech plays Missouri Saturday. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for both games. Oh yea! And what happened to those Seattle Seahawks?

oh.my.gosh. Amanda forwarded me the text/photo you sent to her but I didn't believe you'd actually BUY one! That has got to be one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time. Actually, I think they are quite cute. Would I buy one? I might. Would I use it? Probably not. But it would be fun to have!
oh, LOVE the new picture you have heading your blog! Beautiful!
Hi Cameo! Thanks for your comments - as always. I really wanted to put a gorgeous sunset up there, but didn't want to lose you as a reader and a comment-er! LOL I've had lots of e-mails, but readers are still afraid to leave comments I guess. As far as the car goes, I put down a refundable deposit, so I can still change my mind. And I still have Donna to deal with when she returns from Battle Ground! YIKES!
