FAMILY

The photos above are from Marc & Ben’s recent trip to Montana. I’ve mentioned family recently who are all hunters - our son Toby, our son-in-law Marc, and all of Donna’s brothers are all avid hunters. A couple of weeks ago Marc and Donna’s brother Ben, who lives in Trout Lake, WA., drove to the Montana back-country, about 22 miles north of Augusta for a seven day elk and deer hunt.. Four other friends were also included in the ‘guided’ trip. The hunting camp was 18 miles in by horseback from the lodge to the Bob Marshall wilderness. Marc shot a nice 5x5 elk the same day they rode into camp, which was only the 4th time that had happened in 10 years. On Friday morning Marc and a guide rode two hours deeper into the wilderness, and then a 2 mile hike up a mountain. And that's where Marc shot his very first whitetail, a beautiful 4x5. Friends Tony and Dave also shot elk, each getting a 4x4. Ben shot a 3x4 whitetail and Brent shot a nice 5x5 whitetail. The group saw a few grizzly bears but they were usually a ways off. The morning they left Marc spotted a Grizzly bear headed towards their camp. The bear was quite interested in what was hanging on the meat pole. Marc took a photo of a bear from about 40 feet, he always wanted to see a Grizzly bear, but after this trip, he hopes to never see one again. Marc was the only one to 'tag out'... meaning he shot both an elk and a deer. Marc said it was pretty interesting watching the meat go back to the lodge. Each elk went out on two mules and the two deer were able to go out on just one mule. Marc said it was pretty cool seeing the sun come up over the Rockies the day they left. The rivers were so clear they were able to see 20 inch trout! Sounds like a fabulous and successful trip! And two of Donna’s other brothers, Nin & Doug are now gone hunting, also in Montana I think! And son Toby left for Idaho yesterday for white tail deer hunting! Keep that sausage coming to Texas guys!
