Texas Living!

Let’s see - what’s new living here in North Texas? Well, it’s still football season and some things have changed in the last few weeks! But first, how about ‘dem Cowboys? Who would have thought? They’re still winning and looking good doing it! I’m now officially a fan, watching the games and the box scores. Can they beat New England in the Super Bowl? Who knows – they probably will have to still get by the Packers first! And maybe the Seahawks! And how about Texas Tech? WOW! They knocked off 3rd ranked Oklahoma Saturday night. How cool is that? Now it’s kinda wait and see which bowl they will get invited to. But the big news? Ranked 3rd in the State in Division 5A, the 10 - 0 Allen High School football team folded like a house of cards on Saturday at the Cowboys stadium. They lost their play-off game to unranked Rowlett, 37 – 32. They beat Rowlett earlier this year and should have won easily, but were down 30 – 0 at half-time. And speaking of high school football, have you ever watched Friday Night Lights? I read the book when it first came out, and have always been intrigued by the huge crowds that Texas high school football draws. I think I have mentioned in earlier blog postings that Allen’s home games draw crowds exceeding 14,000 fans. Anyway, the television show has one character named Buddy Garrity, who is the booster club guru in the fictitious town of Dillion, Texas, home of the Panthers. Well the actor, Brad Leland, who plays Buddy, lives here in Allen. I’ve seen him around at the grocery store. Yesterday Donna and I were having breakfast at the local Tin Star when he came in. I mentioned I loved his show, and he stopped at the table to chat. He came back by a bit later and chatted some more. He talked about how I’m gonna like the way the writers develop the ongoing story line for another character, Landry. How fun was that?
