TEXAS LIVING!

WOW! Here we are -- football season. YAHOO! About damn time! Do you know what the official sport of Texas is? It is rodeo! But high school football is the MOST popular. And speaking of HS football . . . our Allen High School Eagles were rated 2nd in the Nation in some polls, and 2nd in the State behind Katy, near Houston. Last night Allen played away in Longview in East Texas and had a 3 score lead. AND then lost it! Longview was 24 – 0 at home rated #1 in the 4A, so they are no slouches. Final score: Longview 28 – Allen 25, before an overflow crowd of 12,000. And then we have college football. And in College football we’ll be following the Texas Tech Red Raiders again this year – we have a connection through Michelle, our daughter-in-law, and her family. Thanks to that connection, we have been to several TT games over the last six years. The Red Raiders first game is next Saturday the 5th at home against North Dakota. It will be the 1st meeting between these two schools. The first league game is the 3rd game of the season - at Texas. After the game ending win last year at TT against UT, they will be looking for revenge. No shortage of loyalties about college football here in North Texas! And then there is the Dallas Cowboys, often called, “America’s Team”. I agreed when they were Landry’s team, but now? Not so. Hard for me to be a big fan of the Cowboys – my loyalty is still with the Seattle Seahawks. Don’t get me wrong, I watch the Cowboys, and I even cheer them on hoping they will win. But I have a hard time with all these meddlesome owners in pro sports (Jones, Cuban, Steinbrenner, etc.). I also have a hard time with the salaries being paid in all of pro sports. Gotta love High School and College football! And then we have the current Little League World Series underway. What a joy watching athletes at this age! And a big game for San Antonio, Texas later today, they will be playing California for the right to play in the Championship Game. Go Texas!
